Agave Shawii - USE CODE "CNAB02" FOR ORDERING

The species, Agave shawii is found in the the northern part of Baja California, Mexico. Like most agaves, otherwise known as century plants, the plant does not flower until maturity at 15 years or more. At this time, a large flower spike grows from the center of the plant. After produces seeds from the flowers, the plant then dies. This particular agave turns incredible colors as it dies. As it dries, the leaves change from yellow to silver. This picture was taken in early July, 2002, when I first visited Baja California, and is one of my early favorites, and part of this triptych.
