Abstract Southwest - Photos by John Villinski

Sand dunes lend themselves to some fantastic abstractions. White Sand Dunes National Monument in New Mexico are some of my favorite dunes. The sand is gypsum, a white mineral that most people will know as the stuff in sheetrock or wallboard. I made this photograph over Thanksgiving week in 2004 I was backcountry camping. The web cannot do justice to the subtle blue and violet in the sand dunes.
