The species,
Agave parryi var. parryi, is found in the USA (Arizona,
New Mexico) and Mexico (Chihuahua, Durango), at 4000 to 9000 feet
elevation (1200-2700 m). Like most agaves, otherwise known as century
plants, the plant does not flower until maturity at 20 years or
more. At this time, a large flower spike grows from the center of
the plant. After produces seeds from the flowers, the plant then
dies. This image, taken after sunset, with a bit of diffuse light
gracing the top of the agave gives it a ghostly feel.
