The the genus
opuntia, which includes prickly pear and cholla grows at elevations
from sea level to over 8000 ft. This species, called a cliff prickly
pear, was found on the Kaibab Plateau north of the Grand Canyon.
The red and purple color come from the freezing cold weather. Taken in November 2006. |
