Saguaro Close Up 13 - USE CODE "CNAB97" FOR ORDERING

The Saguaro cactus, Carnegiea gigantea, is found in Arizona and the Northern Mexico state of Sonora. This is the largest cactus species found in the United States of America, and can grow to over 50' high, weigh more than 10 tons and live 200 years. This photo is of one such saguaro that I found while hiking around the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge in January 2006. The blue coloration seen in this photo is not the normal color of the saguaro, rather it is the color picked up by the saguaro when in partial shade or photgraphed under overcast conditions.
