The title of
this image, "Emerald Pool" seems quite ironic. This pool,
located in Zion National Park
does turn green due to algal blooms as the weather warms. This image
was taken in March, 2004, and the pool is shaded from light by the
high canyon wall, conditions that preclude the algal growth. The
yellow and brown colors seen in the pool is due to the large amount
of tannins, or organic degradation products, in the water. |
