The gypsum sands of White Sand Dunes National Monument in south-central New Mexico creates a magical place to spend a night or two. Most photographs of the dunes depict the ripples in the soft, loose sand. What most people do not realize is that the dunes are actually very hard below the surface, and have their own beauty, as seen in this early morning photo.
